It May Sound Cliche... (Reflecting on September 11th)

It may sound cliche
but it was just another day
A day like any other
Hit the snooze bar
got back under the covers

Driving thinkin' about how much I hate my job
even though I had two cool VP's named Bob
Sat down to check email and read the news online
only to find out that our nation was the victim
of an international crime

I watched the footage on CNN
Was this the terrible act of mad men?
The Temples of Mammon fell before my eyes
Few were able to say their last good-byes
The Fortress of Defense did not escape the wrath
In order to understand I had to do some math

Blaming the event on gays didn't add up
Politicians said the attackers hated our freedom
I didn't bother to drink from that cup
Were the chickens coming home to roost?
Better not ask that out loud
When everyone else is floating on a patriotic cloud
In the midst of fear and confusion
it's important to keep a clear head
I did some algebra before I went to bed

If X = Extreme Religion
and B = Bad Foreign Policy
then X + B = Hate
and X × B = A Violent Fate

It was just another day
A day like any other
except for the dieing of
3,000 sisters and brothers
in one unfortunate moment in time
and for the rest of America tragically sublime

Church attendance rose
at least for awhile
Our faith is weak compared to
the people of the Nile
How many Christians are willing
to take up their cross?
Are we willing to die for the lost?

No suicide bombs from below
or carpet bombs from the sky
will ever bring the peace that we seek
'Less we forget, the earth is for the meek
But, no one really believes in turning the other cheek
We say Jesus is Lord, yet His example we ignore
everytime we rush into war

It was just another day
A day like any other
A day to thank God
for sons and daughters, fathers and mothers
Just another day except for the one or two
atheists who decided to pray
If we learned nothing else, hopefully we
learned to treasure each day
