Kanye West and the Cause of Conflict Diamonds
A friend of mine and fellow Charlottean, Angela Lindsay, has written an excellent article for the Charlotte Post called, "Diamond's aren't best friend to the people of Sierra Leone." She calls on hip-hop artists who are among some of the most enthusiastic consumers of diamonds to join rapper/producer Kanye West in his attempt to raise awareness around this important issue. If entertainers can get together to fight poverty as with the Live 8 concerts, why not do the same thing for civil wars fought over diamonds? Read Angela's article here.
For a poetic take on conflict diamonds and other matters, read Going Back To Africa.

Rod,
I just recently happened upon your site and have been intrigued by both the content and spirit of it. Thank you for sharing your gifts in this medium.
Maybe it is just me, but I am saddened that this particular post generated no response while a post about DL brothers sparked a fair amount of responses.
I would hope what is going on in Sierra Leone would be worthy of at least as much fascination/repulsion as the idea of two men (or two women) having sex.
Anyway, again, thanks for raising so many interesting and important topics. I look forward to exploring more of this site's archives as well as watching for new postings.
God bless.
Qamar,
Thanks for your comments. I agree that it is somewhat sad that this topic and others have not generated a comparable level of responses to those topics that seem more sensationalist in nature. Perhaps it is because we still have a hard time linking what happens around the world with what happens in our own backyards.
